Independent, worry-free showering.
Standing for the length of a shower is one of the first things people give up when balance or stamina goes, and it is also where a lot of falls happen — wet floors, no handhold, and turning to reach the taps. A shower stool or shower chair lets you wash sitting down, steadily and in your own time. Ours are height adjustable with non-slip rubber feet, need no fitting or drilling, and lift straight out when someone else wants the shower. Most qualify for VAT relief, with free UK delivery on orders over £15.
Shower stool or shower chair — which do I need?
The difference is back support. A shower stool is a simple seat on four adjustable legs: light, compact and easy to move, and the right choice if you can sit unsupported and just need to take the weight off your legs. A shower chair adds a backrest, which matters if you tire quickly, feel unsteady sitting, or will be in the shower for longer. If you are choosing for someone else and are unsure, a chair with a backrest is the safer default.
How to choose
- Measure your shower tray or cubicle. This is the step people skip. Measure the internal floor space and check the stool's footprint will sit clear of the door track, particularly in a quadrant enclosure.
- Check the height range. Sitting on the stool, your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees at roughly a right angle. All of ours adjust in stages.
- Look at the maximum user weight. It is listed on every product page — our swivel stool takes up to 165 kg.
- Consider a swivel seat if getting in and turning round is the hard part. A rotating seat lets you sit down at the edge and turn, instead of shuffling once you are in.
- Think about who else uses the bathroom. A free-standing stool lifts straight out, which suits a shared household better than anything fixed to the wall.

Frequently asked questions
Will a shower stool slip on a wet floor? Not if the feet are in good condition. Every stool here has non-slip rubber feet designed for a wet tray. Check them from time to time and replace the stool if the rubber has hardened or worn smooth, in the same way you would a walking stick ferrule.
Do I need to drill or fit anything? No. These are all free-standing, so there is nothing to install and nothing left behind if you are renting or the need is temporary.
Will it fit in a small shower cubicle? Usually, but measure first. Internal floor space is what matters, not the size of the room — and in a quadrant enclosure, check the stool clears the curved door as it slides.
Is a shower stool suitable after a hip replacement? Often, yes, and it is one of the aids occupational therapists commonly suggest. Set the seat as high as it will comfortably go so you are not lowering yourself too far, and check with your physiotherapist about your own restrictions.
Can I buy a shower stool VAT-free? Yes — if you are disabled or have a long-term illness you can usually buy VAT-free by completing the short declaration at checkout.
